Organizing for Instruction with Blog Hoppin'

This has been such a great week and it just keeps getting better! I am abolutely loving all the amazing the ideas that are being shared by so many fabulous teachers and the great job my sweet friends are doing on their posts on Blog Hoppin! I am blessed to be able to write and collaborate with such inspring bloggers and teachers!

Organization looks a little different for everyone. This year, since it will be my first year in fourth grade, I am excited about having a chance to start from scratch with an orgaizational system thatworks  for me. This is what I have planned:

I bought colorful file folders and labels.

That's it.

LOL...no, I'm kidding! The folders are all color coordinated to the subjects I teach. I am self contained this year so I will be teaching al subjects...Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies...just another reason to start with a plan for organizing all these resources!

So, here is the real plan.

1. I will have two ways to organize my files. By week and by subject/standard.

2. Each subject will have a different color file folder while my weekly folders will all be one color.

3. The weekly folders will have 2 labels. One for the week of instruction (week one, week two....) and another label that will be on the front with special events (First week of school, Labor Day, Halloween...).

 4. The subject/standard folders will also have two labels. One for the subject and standard name. Here in Texas we use the TEKS, so that label will be named "Math- TEKS 4.6 ABC). The other label will be large and actually give the full definition of the TEK so that when I look at the name I can remember what the definition of that TEK.

As I prepare for the week,  I will also prepare my folders for that week's instruction. That way when I make copies, all I have to do is slip my extras in the folder and TAH DAH...everything is where is should be and no random little stacks hanging around my room!

Now, I am a super visual person and need pictures...
those are coming soon!

I also like to know that someone just might have created a resource that I could use...
it's also coming soon!

Make sure to stay connected!

Classroom Digs with Blog Hoppin'

Today for Teacher Week at Blog Hoppin, we are talking about our homes away from home
....our classrooms!

Now, my classroom is definitely a work in progress and with less than a week before we go back for our staff development week, I am trying to steal the last few minutes of Summer to relax. With that being said, I know that I will be at school again by the end of the week to add a few more details to my room.

Ok...maybe A LOT more details in my room!

Here is my small group area. This will be home base for all my guided reading and math lessons. I have one book shelf there now and as we all know, I am going to need more. On those shelves will be all my goodies that I use to teach and if you can imagine it...the white walls will have black material to create bulletin boards. Can't you see it in your mind? LOL...

This is my desk. I have debated whether to keep my desk. For now, it's here but if I need the room, that little bad boy is going in storage and my guided group area will become my desk. The bulletin board will be black as well and I can't wait to get some colorful tape on the white board to make a section for homework, objectives and classroom incentives. The Cuteness Fairy hasn't arrived in my classroom just yet!

I think this is going to be the kiddos favorite area. I have these shelves that have been with me FOR.EVER. When I moved a couple of years ago (to second grade), my sisters had the AWESOME idea of turning them on their sides to create benches for the kiddos! Now, this room is smaller than my last room, so I had to be a little more creative about how to place the shelves. This area still needs a cute little rug and some pillows, but when it's done, it will be so inviting to my little big kids!

I know. Not so pretty right now....but I can't wait until it's finished! Black and bright is the theme I am going with again (which is inspired by my dear bloggy friend Kristin of Ladybug Teacherfiles)!

I'll be updating this sweet little post as the week goes by and I spend more time in my room!
Make sure to check back soon and stay in touch on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for updates!

Meet the Teacher 2013 with Blog Hoppin

This has to be one of my favorite weeks! I absolutely love reading all the posts that are shared by do many as I get ready to head back to school! I still have one more week left but as we all know, it will fly by!

Blog Hoppin is having an awesome week   and I am so excited to participate!

So, here's what the week has to bring:

Make sure to check in at Blog Hoppin each day for new posts and you can add definitely join in on the fun and link your posts there as well. I will be hosting Tips and Tricks on Friday and I can't wait!

As for today, let me introduce myself!

1. I am the momma of a smart, beautiful ad talented ten year old that will be in fifth grade! I am still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that she is old enough to be in fifth grade and that this is her last year in elementary! I am going to need lots of tissues this year!

2. My best friend (other than my wonderful mom) is my baby puppy! He's name is Harrison and he is 12 years old. He is a Japanese Spitz, which kinda looks like a fluffier Pomeranian. He is the sweetest puppy ever!

3. I have taught for 14 years. After graduating from Texas A&M, I began teaching as a reading at-risk teacher. I then taught first grade for 11 years and second for 2 years. All of my experience has been in primary, until now...

4. I teaching fourth grade this year! I am excited and nervous! It will be an new chapter and exciting challenge and am definitely up to the task! The coolest part is that these kiddos were my babies in second grade and I can't wait to see how they have grown as learners!

5. I LOVE Starbucks....and coffee in general! My favorite is the Venti White Chocolate Mocha or a warm Chai Latte. I swear its Heaven in a cup!

6. I cook when I am stressed. I love to cook all the time but especially when stressed. For some reason, everything seems more clear after cooking up some of my favorites, especially Puerto Rican food.

7. I am Puerto Rican! I love everything about our culture from the music to the food and don't even get me started on the beauty of my little Island...simply breathtaking!

8. I have a few small addictions: clipart, fonts and office supplies. Let's face it, there is nothing like an amazing pen! Lol...

9. I was Teacher of the Year and District Teacher of the Year in 2012.  It is some thing I am extremely proud of and am honored to have received.

10. I was almost finished with an undergrad in Biomedical Science (looking at becoming a Pediatrician) when I decided I wanted to be a teacher. With the support of my family and sorority sisters of Kappa Delta Chi, I made that dream a reality...

and here I am now! I love what I do and am so grateful I can share my ideas, thoughts and experiences with you all through blogging!

I hope you feel you know me a little better and I can't wait to read all about you all!

I would love for you all to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and Blog Lovin so we can stay connected and don't forget to link up and introduce yourself on Blog Hoppin!

Classroom Door Hangers Giveaway!

I am so excited to share with you my latest creation....
Classroom Door Hangers!

I was so inspired by my sweet friend at Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah when
she created this awesome forever free.....

that I started as soon as it was posted to create door hangers that can be used to let students, fellow teachers and school staff know where you and your kiddos are throughout the day!
Here are a few examples of the hangers that I have created....
both in COLOR and BLACK and WHITE!

I plan to print the color version and laminate them to hang on my door to use this year. As I was working through it , I thought about how fun black and white copies would be to have the kiddos color for the classroom or to have as a printer friendly copy.  Here are the door hangers that are included:

Currently and getting back into a routine!

It's August 1!

That means that it's time for me to get back into my routine. Time to start thinking about classroom decor, lesson plans, TpT resources, and anticipating the day that my new class comes for the first day of school! Only 25 days until I have my first 4th grade class and the 2013-2014 year begins!

Part of getting back into my routine is joining my sweet friend Farley of Oh Boy 4th Grade in her awesome monthly post Currently!

Here is what I am up to CURRENTLY....

I am ready to shop!

As you mught have figured out by now, Frixon Pens are my FAVE pens! I am a little OCD about scribbles and white out and these little beauties are my best friends! They really do erase like a pencil and are perfect for all the notes, lessons and grading that I will be writing very, very soon!

As I get my classroom ready, I am in need of SEVERAL containers! I am going to use these for stations, supplies and for the kiddos to turn in their papers.

Last but definitely not least is my classroom theme! BLACK AND BRIGHT!
I absolutely love Ladybug Teacherfiles and will be purchasing several of her beautifully created classroom materials to brighten up my classroom!

I'm off to prepare and create!
