Literacy Bags for Parents at Reading Rockets

I absolutely love the websites Reading Rockets and Colorin Colorado! They are full of wonderful information for teachers, parents and students on a wide variety of language acquisition and reading development skills. As I was looking through their site, I found a wonderful idea for parents to keep their students engaged in reading over the summer. Reading Rockets has a series of themed literacy bags complete with book suggestions, a list of materials  and ideas for each theme. You have got to check these out....they have done a great job in helping parents battle those dread summer blues and have fun reading as well!!

These are two of my favorite websites and I know that you will love them too!!

TBA Authors Hosting a New Book Study

I have had a fabulous time reading all the great posts on Debbie Diller's Math Workstations! Everyone is doing such a great job with the book but I was a little sad. I won't be able to use any of the wonderful ideas next year.

When we return to school, I will be teaching second grade and we will be departmentalized.I will be teaching ELAR (which I absolutely adore). So when I heard about a book study that was about inspiring the inner reader in children...I was totally in!!

Thinking of Teaching is hosting a book study on the book The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller. Several TBA authors will be hosting chapters from the book, including your's truly! I will be hosting chapter 4: Reading Freedom with Mandy from A Special Kind of Class.

Are you totally excited?!? Want to join in?!? Hop on over to Thinking of Teaching! There you will find a schedule for the book study and also enter to win a fabulous prize in a giveway to kick off our book study!

Grab our button, blog about the book study and then make sure to blog hop your way through an AWESOME book!!

My Favorite Things Linky Party

I love a linky party and Ms. Coe at Little Miss Kindergarten is having one! I always love to read through linkies, especially  ones about FAVORITES :)

So, here are a few of my favorite things.....

Starbucks
Mocha Coconut Frappuccino
Oh, how I love Starbucks! I am absolutely in love with the Coconut Mocha Frappacino that they have now. So yummy!!

Office supplies

Oh my word, if I go to Office Depot, I could be there for hours and spend way to much money!! Especially on pens!! My favorite pen right now is the Uniball Jetstream 101. I have been a fan of Jetstream for a while but this one is FABULOUS!

I can't help myself! There are so many wonderful products from creative and talented teachers!

I have been following a very high profile case on Tru TV and love to see the justice system at work. It really is quite fascinating!

A great internet resource...... WOW!

Have you heard of Kahn Academy?

It is an amazing (and absolutely free) resource for students, teachers, parents, and home school students on a variety of math and science skills. There are videos, tutorials and practice for math and science skills from basic addition and subtraction for elementary students to high school and college level math and science. I first saw this website while watching the news and immediately went to check it out. It is provided by Bill Gates and Google and I was amazed by the amount of material that was covered through the tutorials. It is a perfect summer resource for students (and your own little ones- I know I plan to share it with my daughter) and would make a wonderful addition to any classroom for additional support in math and science.

Go check it out and enjoy!
