My most amazing news EVER!

I don't know about you but I have a 'bucket list'.

I have a personal one with tons of travel destinations, random acts of kindness and things I want to accomplish before my time on this gorgeous Earth is over.

I also have a professional list. Oh YES! I have a list of goals that I want to accomplish in my career to both enrich my students and grow as an educator. One of the items on this list is to visit the Ron Clark Academy in Atalanta, Georgia. I have been so inspired by the dedication and innovation in education that is present at RCA that I knew, someday, I had to see it with my own eyes. See it in action, live and have the ability to take in the excitement and limitless learning potential that is overflowing at RCA.

It's no secret. I love Ron Clark and everything that he does for education. His books are awesome and all have a common theme. Find the best and amazing potential in each student and be the best for them because they depend on us. Find your passion and let it permeate every moment in the classroom. Let it seep out of every pore so that those around you KNOW you genuinely love what you do everyday. We are critical in what happens in the classroom and by being reflective of what we do throughout our experience with children, we can inspire children to become amazing members of the world community.

If you haven't read his books, they are a must for every teacher.
You will be inspired in ways you never thought possible.

After saying all this, I have exciting news.
My Principal, who also is a huge believer in what Mr. Clark has accomplished, has decided to send this little teacher to.....RCA!!

I am over the MOON with excitement!!
I have booked my flight and I can't wait to attend the conference in November!

I can't hardly believe it....I still want to pinch myself to see if I am dreaming! I am so excited and will be celebrating this awesome news with a fabulous book study coming soon....

Currently...and YES I am still here...

HOWDY!

Oh my goodness, I have missed blogging these last couple of weeks! As you can probably guess, I went back to school about 2 weeks ago and have been SUPER busy! This has been a great start to a new school year, I think probably the best one ever! The kiddos I have this year are former students of mine from when I taught first and second (they looped with me and now we are together for a 3rd school year!) I seriously LOVE this class and we have already hit the ground running! They are part of my support system as I navigate the new curriculum of 4th grade. Everything else is pretty much falling into place, but discovering new curriculum and what it needs to look like in the lessons I plan is definitely a learning curve. My fourth graders are so independent and I am looking for the perfect balance of my primary minded instruction and their ability to do complete the task with less support from me. This is a year of learning for me too but I am ALWAYS up to the challenge!

I am linking up with my sweet friend Farley from Oh Boy 4th Grade to share my CURRENTLY...

I just love this monthly blog post by Farley! Definitely a great way to stop for just a moment in time and reflect about all that is happening at that moment!

As I am writing this post, I am so esuper excited to say that Teaching with Curls and a Smile on Facebook now has over 1500 likes! I am SO excited and can't wait to have a little giveaway to say thank you for all your LOVE and SUPPORT!

Make sure to stop by Teaching with Curls and a Smile!
I'll be announcing something exciting very soon to celebrate!

Organizing for Instruction with Blog Hoppin'

This has been such a great week and it just keeps getting better! I am abolutely loving all the amazing the ideas that are being shared by so many fabulous teachers and the great job my sweet friends are doing on their posts on Blog Hoppin! I am blessed to be able to write and collaborate with such inspring bloggers and teachers!

Organization looks a little different for everyone. This year, since it will be my first year in fourth grade, I am excited about having a chance to start from scratch with an orgaizational system thatworks  for me. This is what I have planned:

I bought colorful file folders and labels.

That's it.

LOL...no, I'm kidding! The folders are all color coordinated to the subjects I teach. I am self contained this year so I will be teaching al subjects...Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies...just another reason to start with a plan for organizing all these resources!

So, here is the real plan.

1. I will have two ways to organize my files. By week and by subject/standard.

2. Each subject will have a different color file folder while my weekly folders will all be one color.

3. The weekly folders will have 2 labels. One for the week of instruction (week one, week two....) and another label that will be on the front with special events (First week of school, Labor Day, Halloween...).

 4. The subject/standard folders will also have two labels. One for the subject and standard name. Here in Texas we use the TEKS, so that label will be named "Math- TEKS 4.6 ABC). The other label will be large and actually give the full definition of the TEK so that when I look at the name I can remember what the definition of that TEK.

As I prepare for the week,  I will also prepare my folders for that week's instruction. That way when I make copies, all I have to do is slip my extras in the folder and TAH DAH...everything is where is should be and no random little stacks hanging around my room!

Now, I am a super visual person and need pictures...
those are coming soon!

I also like to know that someone just might have created a resource that I could use...
it's also coming soon!

Make sure to stay connected!
